Post Thinking of selling the rado.
Convince me not to.

It has become clear to me that I can no longer afford having two cars (or even 1 apparently). Right now I'm not really enjoying the rado whatsoever. I've put less than 400km on in the last year. I was going to use it as my daily once I sold my mk2 but that has been for sale (at a ridiculously good price) for quite a while.

I just know that it will be impossible to find another rado in this shape down the road and that I will end up regretting it.
What do you guys think?

Frankly, I dont think you would miss it that much if you sold it, since you havent driven it that much since you bought it. I think youd miss your MkIV more then the Rado.

normally i would say don't sell it as you would miss it too much. but CJ raises a good point, and you admit it too. you don't seem to drive it so you might as well sell it.

the only issue is that, while i dunno what you paid for it of course, i can GUARANTEE that you won't get very much for it. in all honesty, despite the fact that that is a beautiful car that anyone would be lucky to own, i seriously doubt that you'd get over 5k for it....assuming you could sell the RSs for the proper price separately. and with the RS you might be able to squeeze 6k outta someone. the value of corrads has really tanked. fwiw, i spent 10.5k on mine back in the day.... i clearly cannot sell mine for anywhere near that now...might get 3k? :( and that's after spending inknown thousands to get it where it is now, which ain't that different from stock!

perhaps an idea would be to bring it to a show or two and stick a sign on the dash....might be a more profitable way to sell

Can you just put it in storage for 10 years? Or do you have payments that you're making on it?

yep, i'm sure if you hunted you can find better, i had zero time to investigate back then...and the complex i was living in in NY woulda charged 100 for another parking spot anyways....

boyd's is nice tho, climate control n security n everything. hell, my rado was parked next to a pasta rocket of some sort iirc, and we all know how they need to be kept in perfect conditions or they desintergrate :P that being said, my 1 year old battery was still toast after 8 months there.

Riks used to store his Mk3 somewhere out in the sticks for dirt cheap. Just google some places and I'm sure you'll find something

Post Re: Thinking of selling the rado.
Wow. Thanks everyone for the helpful feedback (minus the first couple of posts)

Now, I own the car outright and do not have any payments to make on it. My reasons for selling aren't primarily just based on my financial situation. I will be writing my master's thesis over the next year (hopefully it doesn't take longer than that) and will have no time or desire to even think about cars.

If I were to sell I think I could still get a good price for it. Probably not what I paid but I think that you are exaggerating a bit Connell. To be entirely honest and not the least bit bias,I have not seen a cleaner, more original example around here. Yes there are clean rado's that have been completely redone and yes there are original ones but not this clean. Scooby sold his rado for something like 12k last year, and yes he only had 86k (mine has 138) but my paint is definitely in better shape.

Now usually I would say that mods don't really add to the value of the car; however, the mods I've added are primarily rare euro bits - headlights, wheels, exhaust and then top of line coilovers. I guess I could put it away in storage but it seems kinda silly to pay to not drive the car - which is basically what I'm doing now. In theory the value would appreciate; but as Connell has pointed out the market sucks nowadays, so who's to say it will be any better down the road?

i have someone coming to see the jetta this week so hopefully this one pans out and we won't have to continue this discussion.
