Nice choice on the wheels too. I would love to see it on coils.

Fitzki, awesome ride! Too bad I missed it last Friday, I saw your post three days later

Must be nicer to drive now that gas prices have dropped slightly

I've seen your car before Fitzki, very nice indeed, but I just learned something, I had NO idea VW offered a 4motion vehicle with a manual transmission.........now I want one! Was it only the W8 4Motion you could get with a manual or is it available with the V6 and 1.8T as well??

I'm not the expert... I'm sure somebody else here would know specifics for the Cdn market. In the US, I presume the R32 was a manual/4mo car, and for sure in Europe the V6 4mo Golfs and Jettas had a 6 speed. Pretty sure there's a Euro Passat 5-speed 4mo as well.

All that to say... where there's a will, there's a way!

Yeah, I should have clarified, I have driven manual 4Motion's in Europe (when over on NATO missions, which is all the time for me, LOL), but I have never seen one sold in the CDN market, until now......... dammit, now I want one, ideally a 1.8T manual 4Motion....or better yet, a TDI (but I know we NEVER got one over here, doh!)

UPDATE: LOL...... just did a quick online autotrader search, and YES, you can get a B5.5 Passat 4Motion in a 5 speed manual both sedan and variant (in both the 1.8T and V6), rare, but they are out there....YAY! In your case Fitski, I think you may have the only manual W8 in Canada, since according to records, only a few "Corporate company demo's" were ever brought over......WOW, talk about "uber rare"......hold onto that one!!
W8 Variant = rarer than hen's teeth, 6speed manual W8 Variant = rarer than a straight virgin catholic priest in NFLD..........oops, I'm going straight to hell for that one! sorry

Gord at AA wants me to insert a quattro Audi TT driveline (sans engine) into my mk4 tdi ... and I'"m thinking about it when I'm done paying VW Credit in two years. Apparently you can buy it complete, and it goes right in.... 6-speed manual quattro golf tdi. $6K-plus iirc tho.

<edit> he tells me it is just a smidgen lower than the golf, and requires 16"+ wheels (not that it's a big change for most people here!)

Yeah, there are so many Euro combinations that would be nice to have, especially on the diesel side.

My Pacific Blue W8 6-speed Variant is one of 4 sold in Canada (3 from 2003, 1 from 2004). I don't have complete Cdn numbers beyond that, but in the US:

there were 4,931 W8s sold (2002 - 1,420; 2003 - 2,754; 2004 - 757; 3,704 sedans and 1,227 variants). Only 424 of those were 6-speeds (~8.5%); not sure on the 6-speed breakdown between sedan and variant, but by averages, it would be around 100 wagons.

Given those numbers, I figured it would be tough to find what I wanted, and maybe I was just really lucky, but I didn't really have a problem finding it (well, so long as I was willing to travel a little bit).

That would pretty much qualify you for "God" status, I believe.

May as well put a VNT20 on while everything is apart, too - offset those driveline losses.

:D

It needs a drop. ;)

BTW, i read on Passatworld that there were only 97 W8 wagons equipped with 6-speed manuals imported into NA.

Nope, didn't make it to Aylmer today. There are a couple of other W8 Variants in the city... I've seen 3 others (though I doubt any are 6-speeds!).

I'll be deciding on keeping or selling the car in the next few months. Leaning towards keeping it... if that's the case, "investments" will be made...
