Post Metalnerd 2" lift
Anyone here installed a metalnerd lift on their vw? I am looking into this for my 06 golf tdi, so I can get it up the cottage road. Can someone recomend a good ottawa mechanic who might be familiar with the metalnerd spacers, or atleast vw suspension. It involves the installation of new struts and shocks too. Thanks.

I doubt you will find anyone around here with a lift kit, but there seem to be a bunch of people on other forums who have installed metalnerd lifts. Try googling around for more info.

Heres a great pic for those who are having difficulty picturing a lift.

Post Re: Metalnerd 2" lift
Hmmm. Seems like most people around here are more into lowering than lifting. Personally I think my golf is already too low, exspecially considering the road conditions in the ottawa gatineau area and the kind of snow we get in the winter. I already installed an aluminum skid plate; it has likely already payed for itself after a few incidents with a railroad crossing and some speed bumps.
Anyway can someone suggest a good place to get the suspension work done in Ottawa.

Any of our sponsor garages are great - I like Advanced Autowerks personally. See the list here: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=38062

That said, if you need to lift a stock height VW to get somewhere, either that somewhere probably wasn't intended for cars to get there.

Welcome to the club, Liam. You can find plenty of info at TDI Club - you can start here:
http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=159231
Search for "lift kit" or "metalnerd lift" to find more.

Here's the MN kit:
http://www.metalnerd.com/cat09.htm

And I would highly recommend you get it from Brian @ Roseland, who carries Metalnerd products:
http://www3.ns.sympatico.ca/roseland/
(Send him an e-mail to inquire.)

What part of town are you in? There are a few good shops around the city.

Thanks for the info. It has been helpfull. I have already checked out all the info on the metalnerd lift on both tdiclub.com and vwvortex, infact that is where I found out about it. I am currently in the Aylmer area.

On that side of the river, call Auto Xtrem (Gatineau) or Auto Allemagne (Aylmer) - both can handle the job, and both are great shops run by fair folks.

Talk to Marc or Denis.

Talk to Rune.

I was thinking of doing the same thing on my beetle in the spring or fall for next winter. Bloody thing sits so low :banghead: . That, a skid plate and some 70 series tires should make it pretty winter proof.

I know. All I want is a Tiguan with TDI, 4Mo and 6MT. Is that too much to ask? :hammer:

I have deicided against the metal nerd lift. Instead I have ordered vr6 jetta wagon springs front and back. I should see a 1.75 inch rise in the front (thanks also to OEM 10mm strut spacers), and a 2 inch rise in the back. Of course the springs will sag some over time and I will loose some of the ground clearance, but I figure my current springs have saged some too at 96000k. These new springs are taller but also stiffer than stock golf springs. The car should handle better when loaded up with my tools and such. Waiting on a bit of cash till I get them installed
